A major impediment to encouraging a long term commitment to forest management in BC is the short term of licenses associated with current forest tenure policy. Many of the larger international forest products companies depend on the security afforded by private land ownership, which encourages investment in silvicultural improvements. However, in many parts of the world this private timberland ownership is being transferred from integrated forest products companies to financial institutions with professional forest management.
This lecture will focus on the impact of ownership and licensing options on company valuation and financial performance, and recommendations will be made concerning potential changes in land ownership and tenure policies in BC. A lively discussion will follow.
